New Macro lens

The Canon 180 macro was one of my favourite lens from Canon, beautiful colour rendition and with a great working distance it is a wonderful lens to use. However after the drive failure on the lens over two years ago I have’t had much passion for macro. I can still use the lens in manual but it’s a pain to focus with my ageing eyesight. I was using a Sony 135 with extension tubes for a while but the connections between lens and tubes were not that great and it always felt like they would come apart and this was less than ideal when out in the field chasing insects.  New firmware upgrades(finally) in my Sony A1 to enable in camera focus stacking and purchase of new software for stacking images it was time to rekindle my love of insect and fungi photography and finally purchase a new lens.

After some research I purchased a new Sigma 105 2.8 macro lens which was within my budget  and all can say is ‘WOW’ what an optic. Razor sharp and with beautiful colour rendition it’s been a joy to use this past few weeks photographing various fungi species. I just need to identify them but that’s another story. Also a couple of small led lights purchased for creative lighting for the dim light of woodland and I’m back having fun exploring the macro world.

New work gallery also has been added.
